connect
starting out - (connect) – experiencing the opportunity
What to blog?
This is best worked out in collaboration with your class and your teacher.
Connect with each other through the learning then connect with other classes and their blogs.
What to blog? – some starting points for your own blog
A) ‘How can we use our class blog to have fun in our learning?’ Share and discuss blogging
(do it, post about it, comment on other blogs about it)
B) ‘Hello World’ – after internet safety discussions post a greeting on your blog about yourself. Remember first names only and no identifying information. Images need the proper parental/caregiver permission. Scanned drawings are great!
C) Fact or Fiction?
everyone in the class comes up with a topic and a fact or fiction question related to their own interests – others guess/find the answer and leave a comment – the shared interests opens way for further conversation and friendships.
D) Today at school …
a diary of sorts – leave a post each day about what learning has taken place at school. Even with one computer in the classroom, students can be rostered in pairs to take turns adding to the ‘learning journal’
E) Highlights of your learning for the year
F) Your current theme and learning
G) ‘I was just wondering …’ – one liner questions that others classes can try to answer
Go to the first post on the ‘posts page’ for an example using sound files.

H) Create an artistic representation of the event/blog ‘create, connect – blog’
… I’ve modelled this in the two subpages of the ‘about’ page
‘Broken Hill Sculptures’ – I think these capture what creative collaboration can produce
‘Artistic Representation’ – my own ’AR’ of ‘create, connect – blog’
You of course can create whatever you want but please be aware of copyright issues.

Who to blog with?
Look for posts and comments in the posts page.
Always remember to check this page, the posts page and the ideas page to help you connect with other classes.
Remember to leave posts and comments asking other classes if they would be interested in collaborating – do this on their blog and/or this blog. Do this locally and globally.

What do you think of the chapter from Because Writing Matters? How can you apply what you learned from this chapter in your classroom?
Thanks Trish. This will be an excellent topic to blog with your class. Why not get a blog going – if you haven’t got one already? Perhaps there is another class out there who would also like to discuss Literacy and even this chapter specifically. Go to the posts page to get connected. Cheers, Al
